Common Mixer Grinder Problems, Causes, and Solutions
Before we begin, we want you all to know that you don’t need to panic. Most of the issues can be easily solved at home. We have tried to mention most of the common problems with the most accessible and affordable solutions.
Also, no matter if you are using a single jar mixer grinder, multiple one, or a food processor, most of these issues are common in all of them.
Problem: 1 Jar Leakage
The mixer grinder jars are the most essential part when it comes to cooking. But they are also the most problematic ones as well. The most common jar issue is leakage.
Our Indian dishes often need purees, and leak in jars can just make cooking messy and recipe messier.
There are three causes why your mixture grinder jar can start leaking, and we have here all the causes and solutions.
- Loose blades
The jar blades help you grind the food accurately, and thus it is mandatory to have tighter blades. When the jar blades are loose, a lot of air can inside, resulting in leakage of the content added to the mixer grinder jar.
Although most cracks are easily visible, some just aren’t making you think where does this mess come from. This usually happens if you have a damaged jar, right from the day you got it.
The cracks might have widened over time, or maybe your jar just got a bad hit.
- Rubber Gasket
Yes, we are talking about the mechanical seal that is specifically attached to prevent leaks. If it has a tiny tear or malfunction, it won’t be able to seal properly.
This will eventually result in a larger amount of leaks that need to be fixed sooner.
Well, to begin with, loose blades, this issue is easier to solve. You simply need to tighten the mixer grinder’s blades using a screwdriver, and the task is done.
If you are using your grinder for a longer duration, we suggest frequently tightening the blades as it will prevent leakage and grind food in a better way.
But with cracks, you will have to replace the jar. Sadly, there is no other alternative to this.
However, the rubber gasket and the jar can easily be replaced in case of cracks if you are still under warranty period.
If not, you will get a separate rubber gasket in a local hardware store that you can change at home itself.
Problem: 2 Jar Gets Stuck
The jar problems do not end easily. As we already said, the issues can be numerous. Jars often get caught with the grinder, making it difficult to get the ingredients out of it.
This often leads to tugging and pulling, which spills it all over. Trust us; we can imagine the mess. But hold on, this issue can be solved if you know what is causing this issue.
The most common cause of this issue could be leakage. The salty water from the food can go deep into the blade bearings.
This leads to corrosion, and eventually, your jar getting stuck. So we, too, need to dig deep in, and solve the issue, rather than simply giving up on cooking.
You won’t likely need a technician because we are here with the easiest solution.
Simply place your jar the other way, and put cooking oil or olive oil in the area around the motor coupler. Keep the mixer jar in the upside-down position for the next few minutes.
Then, twist the coupler with the help of piler. Tighten the coupler and put the empty jar over it. Start the empty grinder for a minute. Then add some water to the mixer jar. Start and run it for few more minutes.
Simply throw the water away, and add what you want to for your next dish to the jar. Don’t forget to tell us how well this tactic worked.
Problem: 3 Blunt Blades
Grinding is a process impossible without sharper blades. And we know all of you agree with us.
Blunt blades can affect the grinding quality and make the overall dish tasteless. The spices we used while grinding properly enhance the food’s flavor, so it is mandatory to deal with this issue.
Blades often go blunt when you grind more complex substances more frequently, and the jar ages with time.
It can as well be due to a faulty jar mechanism, so always remember to check the jars before you invest in a new mixer grinder.
You can either do this yourself or consult a technician for the same.
If you want to give it a try, get some rock salt. Add the rock salt to the grinder and run the mixer grinder for a minute or two.
Stop for a second and do the same thing twice. Also, remember that you tightly close the lid and press it as the substance is hard it can just breakthrough, and you may get hurt.
You can also use sharpening stones instead of rock salt for the same. If you are not sure, you can definitely consult an expert to solve the issue.
Problem: 4 Slow or No rotating blades
We are always running short on time, and so we want our mixer grinders to be fast, just like us all. But it is a machine, and it won’t understand that.
However, we exactly know when the blades rotate slowly, or even the rotation stops all of a sudden, the waiting can seem forever and highly frustrating.
But dealing with the issue would be much simpler if you know what exactly is causing the issue. On the good side, you can prevent it in the future too.
Blades do not rotate at their actual speed when the food particle gets stuck in its mechanism. They get clogged, eventually resulting in reduced speed.
It often happens when you are grinding semi-liquid foods in the wrong jars. So we often ask our clients to use the correct jar for the perfect grinding.
You won’t really need to consult a technician, just a bit of some time to it can solve the issue.
You will simply need to remove the blades from a jar using a screwdriver and clean the blades.
Soak the blades in warm water for 10 to 15 minutes and rub them using a scrub. Just like you would with any other utensils. Then assemble the blades as they were. And you are good to go.
Run the mixer grinder and check if it worked. If not, you can consult a technician as the issue must be in the motor and not the blades or a jar.
Problem: 5 Overload Shut down
You added the ingredients into the jar, and you notice it just went off all of a sudden. Well, this might probably be due to overloaded components.
Most mixer grinders shut off when overloaded because of the circuit breaker switch.
This might seem frustrating, but it is because of the mechanism to keep the mixer grinder safe from a serious issue.
This usually happens with mixture grinders that have low-capacity motors. If you constantly keep using a mixer grinder beyond its capacity, it will shut down.
This also sometimes damages the mechanism, so choose a mixer grinder depending on the work you expect.
The mixer grinder will also go off, all of a sudden, when you mix too much material in the jar of different textures.
If this happens while you are grinding something in a midway, turn off the grinder for the next 30 minutes and let it rest for a while.
Then next turn on the overload switch after 30 minutes before you restart the mixer.
But if it shuts off without overload, then it might just be in need of some servicing. So contact an expert who can do it for you.
If you want to avoid it, keep your mixer grinder clean. Use proper jars for proper grinding, and replace the circuit breaker for the same issue. And we know this won’t happen again.
Problem: 6 Button Issues
To end the list of the most common mixer grinder issues, we thought of adding the most problematic button issues. Button issues can bring along a lot of hassle, and we know you want to avoid it.
Most often, the button jam up, eventually not working appropriately. You will notice, lack of movement, demands too much of pressure, or just not able to control the mechanism.
This usually happens due to the accumulation of dried-up meals, batters, or other liquids in and around the buttons.
Your buttons likely seem sticky, and you know it needs to be treated before the buttons need to be replaced entirely as it can cause malfunctioning.
You cannot wipe the mixer off, but buttons need to be. So first of all, unplug the mixer and clean it with a damp cloth.
If you can clean the inside portion of the cloth with it, go ahead and do it. If not, use a toothpick to remove the dried material around the button.
And then plug it and test. We are definitely sure it will be smoother. To avoid this issue, always keep your mixer and surrounding clean after usage.
A mixer grinder is a necessity and you should be extra careful while getting a new one and using it as well.
With the variety of options in the market, you can choose considering the type of grinding you often do, the quantity, and the frequency of usage.
